The much-awaited general elections in Uttar Pradesh, the land of gods, will be held next year. Ahead of the polls, the Congress party faced a big blow with a key leader and former Union Minister joining the saffron party.
47-year-old Jitin Prasada bid goodbye to the Congress and donned the saffron shawl on Wednesday at the national capital Delhi in the presence of Union minister Piyush Goyal.
The former Union Minister called the decision to join the BJP, a new chapter in his life. I started feeling that I was in a party surrounded by politics. I started feeling that I was not able to contribute and work for the people, he said.
After joining the party, he heaped praises on the BJP party and called it the only national party. Only BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi can meet the challenges faced by the country currently, he observed.
The development causes a big worry to the Congress party concerned with the UP elections, given the fact that Brahmins and Kshatriyas will be a deciding factor in the polls.
Last year, Congress lost a high-profile leader to the saffron party in the form of Jyotiraditya Scindia.
