Andhra Pradeshs Amaravati Likely To See A By-election?

The recent MLC elections in Andhra Pradesh highlighted the rebel leaders in the party. Four MLAs Anam Ramnarayana Reddy (Venkatagiri constituency), Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy (Nellore Rural), Mekapati Chandrasekhar Reddy (Udayagiri), and Undavalli Sridevi (Tadikonda) are accused of cross-voting and the YSRCP suspended them from the party.

After the suspension, the MLAs started targeting the ruling party and are alleging that several other rebel leaders are not happy in the party and looking for other options. Kotamreddy even said that the YSRCP will lose the next general elections.

Compared to others, Tadikonda MLA Undavalli Sridevi is aggressively targeting the YSRCP and big leaders in the party. She even alleged that she is having a threat from Andhra Pradesh Government Advisor Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy and sought protection. Undavalli is turning out to be a big headache.

Undavalli Sridevi stunned the ruling party by supporting Amaravati's proposal. She even said that the government not supporting Amaravati made her take the big decision. So the MLA now has a good image among voters in the Amaravati region.

Now what the political observers say is that we might see a by-election in Amaravati. Undavalli Sridevi might go for a by-election in her Assembly constituency. Tadikonda falls in the Amaravati region and the majority of people there support the proposal.

If a by-election is called then there are high chances of Undavalli Sridevi winning the by-election with a good margin. Amaravati is a sensitive matter in the proposed area in Andhra Pradesh.

Farmers and people gave thousands of acres to the previous government for the capital city. They are fighting to have sole capital for the state. The Amaravati farmers recently held a big yatra which marks the second phase of protest. They don't have any backing or support.

If Undavalli Sridevi calls for a by-election, then the farmers and people there would support her and make her win. On top of this, the previous Telugu Desam Party proposed the idea and the party leaders and cadre would also work hard for her win. Of late we are hearing reports that Undavalli Sridevi might join the opposition TDP. If the ongoing developments are to be taken for granted then we might see a by-election likely.
