If we look at the list of cricketers who represented the Indian National Cricket team we will get to see only a few Telugu players. We can count them on our fingers. The likes of Mohammad Azharuddin, Venkatapathy Raju, VVS Laxman, MSK Prasad, Venugopal Rao, Ambati Rayudu, and Hanuma Vihari represented the Indian team. Azharuddin and VVS Laxman had a long career in the team.

Now another Telugu cricketer joined the list and got selected for the Indian Test Cricket team. Kona Srikar Bharat from Andhra Pradesh was selected for the first test against Australia as part of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Srikar Bharat already created a name for himself as a good wicketkeeper-batsman in domestic cricket.

Kona Srikar Bharat has been creating a sensation in domestic cricket. His hard work finally paid off as he was selected as the wicketkeeper-batsman for Test cricket.

Kona Srikar Bharat hails from Visakhapatnam. His cricket journey started at a very young age. His father used to be a local cricket coach in Vizag. So Bharat developed an interest in cricket at a young age. Bharat’s father found the natural skill in him. He learned the basics of cricket from his father and started becoming a wicket-keeper batsman.

Later he was selected for the domestic matches. He started giving good performances in these matches and this made him come in the books of selectors of the Board of Control for Cricket in India(BCCI). He was selected for the Andhra Pradesh team. With a good performance in domestic cricket, he was selected for the Indian national team.

His mother is on cloud nine with Bharat’s selection in the Indian National Cricket team. A picture of his mother hugging him is now doing rounds on social media. The picture is getting good responses from one and all.

Regular wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant missed the series due to his injury. So the BCCI did a big homework to pick Pant’s replacement. Though Ishan Kishan is also a proven player the selectors preferred Kona Srikar Bharat. At 29, the Andhra Pradesh player made a debut in International cricket. As he made a Test debut, he received the test cap from Cheteshwar Pujara.
