The Union Cabinet approved the amendments to the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill for ensuring road safety and strengthening the public transport system.
As per New Bill, A Penalty of Rs 10,000 will be imposed for drunk driving. This is five times to that of the penalty charged for the offence until now. For Speeding or Racing, A penalty of Rs 5,000 is going to be charged.
Maximum liability on the third party is capped at Rs 10 lakh in a mishap resulting in death and Rs 5 lakh in an accident causing serious injury. Ride-Hailing Films will have to face a penalty of up to Rs 1 lakh if they violate the licensing norms.
The Proposed Amendment ensures the people who come forward to help the road mishap victims aren't harassed.
New Bill simplifies the registration process of new vehicles. It also makes Aadhaar Mandatory for vehicle registration and driving license. Validity of the Driving Licence is valid for 20 years until an individual reaches the age of 50. If the Licence Holder is in the age group of 30 to 50 years, Then the validity will be for only 10 years.
Union Government will have the authority to recall defective vehicles causing harm to the environment and people.
Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill will be presented in the Parliament during the ongoing session.
