After the withdrawal of the nominations, there are as many as 15 candidates in the fray for the Badvel byelections in Kadapa district. While 27 nominations were filed for the bypoll, nine were rejected after scrutiny on October 11. Later, three independents withdrew their nominations on October 13, the last date for the withdrawal of the nominations. With this, 15 candidates are in the fray.

The major candidates are from the YSRCP, Congress and the BJP. The remaining are all independents. While Dasari Sudha, wife of K Venkata Subbaiah, whose death while being an MLA necessitated the bypoll, is the YSRCP candidate, former MLA Kamalamma is fighting on behalf of the Congress Party. The BJP has fielded relatively unknown youth leader P Suresh.

YSRCP ministers Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy and Adimulapu Suresh are spearheading the YSRCP campaign. The party is far ahead of the rivals in the campaign. Sudha has the sympathy factor and the YSRCP government's performance on her side. The Congress sources said that eight teams have been formed to coordinate the campaign of their candidate Kamalamma. The BJP campaign is yet to pick momentum.

The YSRCP said that the BJP and the Congress were fighting the election even after knowing fully well that they would be defeated in the bypoll. Minister Adimulam Suresh said that the victory of the YSRCP candidate was a foregone conclusion.
