India has begun the largest vaccination drive from January 16. The government is using two vaccines - Covishield made by Serum Institute of India (SII) and Covaxin manufactured by Bharat Biotech in the vaccination process.

Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech has now revealed that there are 14 common side effects associated with the Covaxin covid vaccine. The company also revealed that there are rarely more than five other types of serious reactions.

People who want to take the vaccine are advised to fully explain their health condition to the medical staff before taking the vaccine, as well as those with certain types of allergies, bleeding problems, people with fever, those using blood thinners, and those who are immunocompromised.

Bharat Biotech said in a fact sheet that a limited number of Covaxin vaccines have been approved in emergencies in the public interest. As per reports, the third instalment of clinical trials is still ongoing. The first dose of Covaxin was given to 25,800 people on January 6 as part of the third phase of trials. They will receive a second dose on February 4. From then until 14 days, that is, by February 18, the company will come to a conclusion as to how many antibodies have been produced. That means its potential will be known for another month.

As per the company, there are 14 common side effects of the Covid vaccine. The side effects include pain, fever, malaise, swelling or itching, weakness, nausea, rashes, vomiting, difficulty in breathing, fast heartbeat, swelling of the face and throat, redness on the body, weakness and dizziness.

Vaccines are monitored by medical staff for three months from the last dose after two doses. If they have any side effects, they are treated in government-prescribed hospitals. Vaccinated persons can call the toll free number 18001022245 of Bharat Biotech if required. If there are any serious side effects, the company will pay them compensation after the ICMR Ethics Committee inquiry.
