What, Dowry to the bride? The debate came to the limelight once again. Of late many incidents are coming from China where the relatives of the groom are giving dowry to the bride. Recently, the government requested the brides to not take dowry. However, unmarried men are increasing in India due to the scarcity of brides. Finding a bride is seen as a big thing now.
With this, the tradition of giving dowry to grooms has been reduced in Telugu states for the past two years. Those who say we don't want a dowry but perform marriage grandly are increasing. Parents of girls are doing the marriages easily. Those who can afford are giving dowries. However, a sensational issue came to light in Hyderabad now. The bride and her family members demanded the dowry.
Not just that, they canceled the marriage for not giving the dowry they asked for. Usually, we see this from the groom's side. But the scene has turned upside down now. With no option left, the groom's relatives remained silent.
What Happened Exactly?
A youth belongs to a colony under the Pocharam Municipality in Ghatkesar in Medchal-Malkajgiri. His marriage was fixed with a girl who hails from Aswaraopet in Bhadradri Kothagudem. An agreement was made in front of elders that the groom's side will give Rs 2 lakh to the girl as a dowry.
The marriage was fixed for Thursday night at 7: 21 PM. Groom's family members gave invitations to all saying that the marriage will be held at a function hall in Ghatkesar. The groom, family members, relatives, and friends reached the spot. Groom's side started inquiring as the bride and her family members did not reach the mandap despite the Muharat time approaching.
The bride demanded that the dowry given by the groom's side is less and wanted extra money. An hour before the marriage, the bride made it clear that two more lakhs should be given. When the groom's family members approached the cops, they called the bride's side to the Police station.
Groom's family members were shocked to hear the bride saying that the marriage will happen only if two lakhs are given other than the money they promised earlier. When the groom's side sought two days, they agreed in the presence of the Police. We have to wait and see what happens next. Groom's relatives are saying that the money spent on marriage went in vain.
