Legendary athlete Milkha Singh, popularly known as Flying Sikh has breathed his last due to post Covid complications. The 91-year-old passed away on Friday night.

The celebrated sprinter, who was tested positive for the deadly virus has been undergoing treatment for the virus related complications at PGIMER.He passed away at the same facility.

Following the sudden demise of the runner, condolence messages poured in from the big dignitaries like Honarable President Ram Nath Kovind,Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Vice President Venkaiah Naidu.

"The passing of sporting icon Milkha Singh fills my heart with grief. The story of his struggles and strength of character will continue to inspire generations of Indians. My deepest condolences to his family members, and countless admirers," Rashtrapati Bhavan tweeted.

"Deeply saddened to hear that Shri Milkha Singh ji has passed away. Through his scintillating performances on the world stage, the legendary athlete has stirred and inspired every Indian - and not just in sports," Vice President tweeted.

"In the passing away of Shri Milkha Singh Ji, we have lost a colossal sportsperson, who captured the nation's imagination and had a special place in the hearts of countless Indians. His inspiring personality endeared himself to millions. Anguished by his passing away (sic)," PM Modi tweeted.

Mr. Singh has won four Gold medals at the 1958 Commonwealth Games champion.His all time great performance was finishing at the fourth place at the 1960 Rome Olympics in the 400m race.
