Ahead of the historic massive Coronavirus, which will be conducted from January 16, across the nation, the Union government gave a rude shock to Hyderabad-based biotechnology company.

The union government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is said to have denied permission to administer Bharat Biotech's Covaxin to people who are under the age group of 18.

The new move by the government came as a shock to the biotech company as the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) has earlier given its nod to administer the vaccine to people above the age of 12.

It is said that the union health ministry's additional secretary has sent an official letter to two vaccine companies that are supplying the Covid-19 vaccines stating that the vaccine should not be administered to people below the age of 18.

This is not the first time Covaxin was in the news with the controversy surrounding the effectiveness of the vaccines and the violation of several rules during the vaccine trials.

Earlier, volunteers who also happened to be the Bhopal disaster victims reportedly complained of severe allergic reactions days after taking the Covaxin dose which has raised questions about the safety of the vaccines.

It has to be noted that a volunteer from Bhopal who took the vaccine dose breathed his last days after taking the Covaxin doses. The incident has created a sensation across the nation.

However, Bharat Biotech rubbished the rumors and said the volunteer has not died due to taking a vaccine dose and clarified that the volunteer died of cardiorespiratory failure.
