TDP chief Chandrababu's game plan worked. The decision he took at the last moment gave a positive outcome. He tasted a big victory by fielding former Vijayawada Mayor Panchumarthi Anuradha in the MLA quota MLC polls. As he expected, she emerged victorious. His predictions of cross-voting from YCP appeared true.

TDP has a strgenth of 23 MLAs in the Assembly. It needs 22 votes for an MLC to win. However, four out of 23 TDP MLAs Vallabhaneni Vamsi(Gannavaram), Maddali Giridhara Rao(Guntur West), Karanam Balaram(Chirala), and Vasupalli Ganesh(Vizag South) are supporting YCP and not with the TDP. So there are 19 MLAs for TDP including party chief Chandrababu.

However two YCP MLAs Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy(Nellore Rural) and Anam Ramanarayana Reddy(Venkatagiri) turned rebels. The YCP removed them from in-charge positions. It is said that they would contest from the TDP in the next polls. A few legislators might not get party tickets from YCP and others are said to be happy with the leadership for not getting Cabinet posts. Chandrababu banked on them and Anuradha emerged victorious out of nowhere due to cross-voting.

On the other hand, TDP made a plan to target the YSRECP if Anuradha lost the polls. The TDP wanted to attack the YCP saying that it won in the wrong way by taking four MLAs from the party. The party even wanted to send a message that Jagan defeated a woman. Moreover, she is a BC candidate and TDP wanted to send a strong message into people that YCP purchased four MLAs and defeated a BC candidate.

However, Anuradha won the polls unexpectedly. With this, the TDP had an opportunity to send a message that it won with its own strength. TDP sent whip to 19 MLAs and four rebel YCP MLAs.

On the other hand, the TDP has been strategically sending a message that the four rebel MLAs-Vallabhaneni Vamsi, Maddali Giridhar, Vasupalli Ganesh, and Karanam Balaram would vote for the party candidate. The strategy worked and Anuradha won the elections. YCP threw parties for the MLAs and segregated them into teams and mock polling was also held. But the strategies did not work in front of Chandrababu Naidu.
