Pandemic Dairies: Issues Raising In Performing Last Rites For Patients

The deadly outbreak of the ongoing pandemic resulted in a scarcity of beds and medical facilities. The situation reached a level that, without recommendations, people are not even getting beds at hospitals.

A recent problem added to the list with a scarcity of places to bury the pandemic patient corpse at Christian Cemetery.

Going by the information provided by some media reports, twin cities in Telangana have a mere 70 Christian Cemeteries for a population of around 15 lakh which is very less in number. It is believed that out of 70 Cemeteries, only 13 are official ones while the remaining Cemeteries were set up by individuals.

Fearing the virus spread, pandemic patients were buried at private cemeteries spending more than Rs 20,000 which is adding fuel to the financial burden created by the pandemic.

However, some Pastors opined that having less number of Cemeteries is not a new problem and they are facing the issue for a long time. Some Churches have written to the state government to construct new Cemeteries and they are awaiting the response from the government.
