The AP police have categorically said that the 19 incidents of attack on various temples in the state were unconnected and that there was no link between them. The police said that they were not part of a conspiracy to attack any religion and that there was no link among these incidents. He said the motives for the vandalism was varied and was not religious.
He said that a malicious propaganda was on to foment trouble and create discord among various sections of the society. He said in one incident, the hand of an idol in Srikakulam got broken as it got moistened due to incessant rains. In another incident, a person took a piece of the deity in the hope that he would beget children.
He said the government was mapping all the places of worship in the state and said that as many as 47,593 places of worship, including 28567 Hindu places of worship were identified. He said that there were as many as 290 incidents of attacks on places of worship in 2015 In 2016. There were 322 such cases. In 2018, there were 305 cases. This year, as many as 228 cases have been registered so far.
