In an unprecedented move, the iconic Wimbledon Tennis world championship has been cancelled this year. This has been done in view of the rampant Corona virus spread across the world and in the UK in particular. This perhaps is the first time in many decades that Wimbledon, considered to the numero uno among tennis tourneys, got cancelled

The last time, the tournament was cancelled was in 1945, when the World War 11 has forced the organisers to cancel the event. Wimbledon's cancellation comes close on the heels of the postponement of the Olympics, slated for this July in Tokyo due to corona threat. Many tennis biggies, understandably are disappointed. Roger Federer said he was deeply disappointed. Seren Williams too has expressed disappointment at the cancellation. Both the ageing stars want the tourney to be held as that would offer them a chance to add another victory to their credit.

Meanwhile the UK is in the grip of Corona with over 563 deaths on Wednesday. In one day, as many as 4323 new cases were registered. With this, the number of cases in the UK has touched 30000.
