Delhi High Court slams Union Government over oxygen supply!

The situations in the national capital Delhi have turned problematic with several hospitals running low on oxygen supply. Patients, who are in critical conditions were forced to wait for the oxygen supply.

Talking about the same situations, the Delhi High Court lambasted the Union Government over oxygen supply and asked the government to stop oxygen supply for industrial use to meet the needs of the patients.

A bench of Justices Vipin Sanghi and Rekha Palli issued directives to the centre to implement the orders to stop industrial supply barring the exempted category.

The High Court even questioned as to why the Union Government is waiting for the April 22 date to come to implement the orders, when the patients are struggling with a shortage of oxygen supply.

'Economic interest cannot over right the supplies. Otherwise we are heading for a much bigger disaster. The exempted ones can consider on cutting down their supply, maybe shut down a part. A large population is not infected and we have to save it. We may lose a crore people in the country if we don't act in time,' the high court said during the arguments.

Mentioning the examples of Reliance and Tata industries which came forward to supply the oxygen from their plants, the court asked why the other industries are doing the same.

Asking why the government didn't ask the other industries to do the same, the High Court directed the Centre to meet the representatives of the industries to supply oxygen for medical purposes.

The High Court also directed the Centre to meet the drug manufacturing companies and ask to intensify the vaccine production to meet the needs of the vaccination drive.
