The Kejriwal government has taken another sensational step which has earlier took various measures to prevent pollution in the country's capital Delhi. The car parking fee was is increased to 1,000 rupees. Reportedly this will be implemented in the Connaught place area, which is the biggest crowded area in Delhi. Officials said the decision was taken by the government to prevent private vehicles from hitting the roads.

The Delhi Transport Commissioner said the fee will be charged depending on the parking area, parking time and hours. It has been decided to increase the fees to avoid traffic congestion in Lajpatnagar and Karolbag area. Delhi currently has 3.3 million cars and 7.3 million two-wheelers. Delhiites are buying 500 new cars a day.

The base parking fee committee in its first meeting reportedly discussed the fee and other factors like congestion, location, and high fares for on-street parking.

This committee has to submit its recommendations to the higher monitoring committee, which is headed by the transport minister. Upon considering the recommendations the committee will then fix the base price

According to an official, the price for on-street parking would be twice the off-street parking for the first hour. With each additional hour, the price will be increasing. "After the first hour, parking charges will increase 1.5 times for the next two hours, 1.7 times for 3-5 hours and two times after five hours", he added
