In a shocking incident, the Hyderabad police on Wednesday night found an illegal cock-fight den on the outskirts of the city. Though unconfirmed, sources say that TDP former MLA Chintamaneni Prabhakar was present at the spot where the cock-fights were being held and fled from the spot on seeing the police.

Cock-fights are usually held in the twin Godavari districts during the Sankranthi season. However, holding the cock-fights in and around Hyderabad is unknown. The cock-fights were held near Peda Kanjarla village under Patancheru police station limit. The police sources said that the cock-fights were being held for the past several days.

The police arrested 100 cocks and Rs 10 lakh in cash from the spot. Sources said that there were around 70 people at the spot. Of them 49 persons managed to escape while the remaining were arrested. Among those arrested were Akkineni Satish, Krishnam Raju and B Srinu. The former MLA ,considered to be the chief organizer, managed to give a slip. He is said to have scaled the wall and jumped to safety.

Police sources reveal that several VIPs from Andhra Pradesh too come here to bet their money on the cockfights, which are held regularly. On knowing about this, the police conducted a raid. Sources said that the police are looking for the former MLA.
