Speaking to mediapersons on Friday, BJP President Kanna Lakshminarayana reiterated Special Category Status for Andhra Pradesh is a closed chapter. He went on to say there will be of no use even if AP CM YS Jaganmohan Reddy meets the Prime Minister to discuss about it.
Kanna Lakshminarayana: 'NDA Government is willing to offer anything sought by the AP Government, except Special Category Status. Modi is ready to provide as much funding as possible to Andhra Pradesh. There is no need to talk about the Special Status further'.
The comments made by BJP's AP President gained prominence in the wake of YS Jaganmohan Reddy ordering the Finance Department to prepare a report on the necessity for Special Category Status so as to convince the Finance Commission. Kanna made it clear there will be no use even if Jagan keeps reminded Modi about the bifurcation promise. What could be the next move of AP CM? Will he create a Special Purpose Vehicle and accept as much funds offered by the Union Government?
BJP could maintain good relations with YCP due to its rivalry with TDP. Jagan should be using this situation according to his convenience for obtaining more financial assistance from Centre.
