Can There Be New Ideas From Old Leaders?

Despite all the defeats and despite all the churnings post 2019-elections, the Congress seems to be learning n lessons. The party appears to be still stuck in the old mold. The other day, party's general secretary and incharge of Uttar Pradesh Priyanka Vadra held a few serious meetings on finding out ways and means to revive the Congress in the all important state of Uttar Pradesh.

While the effort was not just laudable, but also much-needed, the people she called for consultations are old and almost retired politicians. For instance, former union minister Ram Lal Rahi was among those invited. The last time he contested the elections was in 1991. This means he is away from active electoral politics for close to 28 years. Similarly, the other leader consulted was Mohsina Kidwai, who too was a former union minister. She is 87 and has not contested the elections in decades. The suggestions offered by them were mostly tried, tested and failed ones.

When will Rahul, Priyanka and other key leaders of the party realise that they need young blood and new ideas to rejuvenate Congress. The elections have changed and the campaign styles have changed. Social media is a big determinant of success today. This being the case, why is Priyanka searching for new ideas from old people?
