A Topbrass BJP Leader made disrespectful comments on Nobel Prize and also those Achievers who received such a prestigious honour. The person who is facing the backlash for his loose talk is none other than Rahul Sinha, who is BJP National Secretary and President of its West Bengal Unit. He mocked the credentials of Nobel laureate Abhijit Banerjee, the Indian-American who received the great honour few days ago.
Responding on Union Minister Piyush Goyal's comment that people have rejected the ideas of Abhijit on Minimum Income Guarantee programme, Rahul Sinha commented Individuals whose second Wives are foreigners are most likely to receive the Nobel Prize. He even wondered if having a foreigner as the second wife was a 'degree'.
For the year 2019, Nobel Prize in Economics was jointly presented to Abhijit Vinayak Banerjee and Esther Duflo. French-American Economist Esther Duflo is Mr. Abhijit's Second Wife.
Abhijit Banerjee worked with Congress for the Minimum Income Guarantee scheme 'Nyuntam Aay Yojana' promised during 2019 Lok Sabha Polls. As per this Scheme, 20 percent of the poorest of poor families will receive Rs 72,000 crore annually.
BJP Leaders need to offer due respect to a Nobel laureate. It's unfair to degrade Nobel Prize and mock Abhijit just because he worked for the Congress Party in the recent elections.
