The demand to make Hitman Rohit Sharma the captain of Team India for the shortest format of cricket gained momentum after, Mumbai Indiana(MI) led by Rohit Sharma won the IPL title in the recently concluded IPL.

With an all-round performance, Mumbai Indians reached the finals. In the finals, MI marched on an easy win by cruising Delhi Capitals.

Cricketer-turned-politician Gautam Gambhir, who took part in an online conversation on the captaincy sharing debate between Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma batted for making Rohit as T20- captain.

Talking in the debate, Gambhir said when we can choose players on IPL performance, why can't we pick captains on the IPL performance. He said if we cannot pick captains based on IPL performance, players also should not be picked based on IPL performance.

The former Indian opener said Virat Kohli is not a bad captain, but Rohit Sharma is a better captain.

However, former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra opined that there is no need for change in leadership. Aakash Chopra said Virat Kohli did nothing bad as a skipper.

Looking at the Indian team's performance in various events under the leadership of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, India bagged the Nidahas Trophy and Asia Cup titles in 2018 under the latter's captainship.

The team India led by skipper Virat Kohli lost two ICC events, Champions Trophy finals in 2017 and 50 overs World Cup semi-finals in 2019.
