Former Player Opinions Not Picking Rayudu For WC Was Disaster!

Ambati Rayudu is one of the few Telugu players who represented the Indian cricket team. He is known for his technique and ability to play spin and pace effectively. He also had a good stint with the IPL and became the only player to be a part of the teams that won trophies as many as six times.

After the 2023 IPL finals, Ambati Rayudu announced his retirement. He thanked everyone who stood by him in the journey. Ambati Rayudu said that it is a proud feeling to represent the national team and he had the opportunity to do so. He released a note announcing his retirement from the game.

Veteran Indian player Anil Kumble made some interesting comments and said that dropping Ambati Rayudu from the world cup squad was a big blunder and he would have been picked as he is the right choice for the No 4 spot.

"Rayudu should have played the 2019 World Cup. Oh yes, there's no doubt about it. It was a huge blunder. You prepared him for that role for so long and his name just disappears from the squad. It was surprising nonetheless," Anil Kumble said, speaking on Jio Cinema.

There is nothing wrong with what Anil Kumble said. Ambati Rayudu grabbed everyone's attention with the 2018 IPL edition as he slammed over 600 runs. He also played a few ODIs for India after the IPL and scored over 600 runs including a superb century. The two stunning performances from Ambati Rayudu made everyone think that nothing can stop Rayudu from getting selected for the World Cup squad and the No 4 position has a big prominence in the team.

But things did not go as expected and Vijay Shankar was selected. Selectors said that he would serve three areas-Bolwing, batting, and fielding, and said he is a three dimension player. The decision did not give a positive outcome and Vijay Shankar could not make valuable runs for the team.

The knockout match with New Zealand showed how much dependent is the team on the top orders. Team India could not survive after losing the early wickets of KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli. Ravindra Jadeja and Dhoni tried to chase the target. But that did not happen. Many former players say that the situation would have been different if Ambati Rayudu was with the team.
