Former Indian Opener Gautam Gambhir came up with an advise on what need to be done after Mahendra Singh Dhoni didn't make retirement announcement post the 2019 World Cup. He comes up an argument that Dhoni invested in the future when he was the skipper of Team India and it's now important for the current Skipper, Coach and Selectors to look into the future. 'Take practical decisions rather than being emotional,' he says.
Gambhir recalled, 'Dhoni said all the three of us (Sachin, Sehwag and Myself) can't play the CB Series in Australia as the grounds were big. He preferred Younger Players for the World Cup. And now, It's time to offer more opportunities for Youngsters like Rishabh Pant, Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan or any other Wicketkeeper. Only then they could deliver for the country'.
Although he rates Dhoni as one of the best captains, Gambhir feels it's unfair to give entire credit for India's success during that phase to Captain Cool. He feels Ganguly and Kohli are also good captains pointing out India winning on foreign soil playing under them. Gambhir also says Anil Kumble and Rahul Dravid had also done a good job as skippers though it's for a short duration.
