Mahendra Singh Dhoni's wicket-keeping gloves bearing an insignia of the Indian Army during the India Versus South Africa Match in the ongoing World Cup stirred a controversy. International Cricket Council (ICC) instructed MSD not to use such gloves again.

In 2015, Dhoni received Honorary Lt. Colonel in the Parachute Regiment of the Territory Army. He just wore the gloves with Army Insignia to show his support for the Armed Forces.

The Committee of Administrators (CoA) chief Vinod Rai told BCCI had already sought permission of ICC for the clearance of Dhoni's gloves. He clarified, 'ICC Norms doesn't allow players to sport any commercial, religious or military logo. There is nothing commercial and religious in this case. Dhoni didn't wear a paramilitary regimental dagger. So, It doesn't come under breach of ICC Rules'.

Netizens came down heavily on the ICC in support of Dhoni. Hashtag #DhoniKeepTheGloves has been trending on Twitter.
