The farm bills seem to be causing bigger trouble than expected for the BJP. Already Akali Dal, one of the oldest ally of the BJP, has left the NDA. The farmers of Punjab and Haryana are up in arms. They are already on a warpath and are camping in Burar for the past five days. The BJP top leadership is discussing the issue of holding talks.

Meanwhile, there is another shock for the BJP. In Haryana, deputy Chief Minister and Jannayak Janata party chief Dushyan Chautala has threatened to quit his post and also the alliance with the BJP if the Minimum Support Price (MSP) is removed. The BJP government in Haryana is dependent on the JJP for its survival. He said that he would not be part of the BJP-led government if the MSP is tinkered with.

In another key development, senior politician and Lok Tantrik Party leader Hanuman Prasad Beniwal, who is part of the BJP led NDA in Rajasthan, has also threatened to withdraw from the alliance if the issues raised by the farmers are not solved. He wrote a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah and asked him to address the issues of the farmers quickly. RLP's major support base is mainly among the farmers. The party has significant influence in 15 Lok Sabha seats.
