A 26-year-old cricketer who represents God's own country Kerala in domestic cricket became an overnight sensation by taking his team to an outstanding victory in the Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy.

Kerala batsman Azharuddeen heroics of scoring a century in just 37 deliveries helped Kerala in beating Mumbai in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, which made critics and fans to compare him with former Indian skipper Azharuddin.

There is a small story behind the cricketer's name. His parents thought of naming him another name. But his brother Kamaruddin, who is a fan of Azharuddin insisted that his brother should be named Azharuddeen.

From former cricketers to commentators to fans, everyone showered praises on the young lad who took Kerala to a resounding victory. Mumbai team is known for its bowling attack in domestic cricket.

"Wah Azharudeen, behtareen! To score like that against Mumbai was some effort. 137* of 54 and finishing the job on hand. Enjoyed this innings," former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag said in a post.

"I had seen an extraordinary player called Mohd Azharuddin many years ago. Now I am seeing another by the same name. Wow, he can play some shots!" Harsha Bhogle's tweet reads.

Azharuddeen who has scored 137 runs in just 54 deliveries made two unique records. He became the first Kerala cricketer to score a ton in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

Mohammed Azharuddeen smashed the second-fastest century in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy by scoring a century in 37 deliveries. Rishab Pant holds the record for the fastest century in the tournament who scored a ton in just 32 balls.
