Northern India state Himachal Pradesh reported multiple landslides on Sunday which resulted in not less than nine people losing their lives while three people sustained injuries reportedly.
It is said that the horrific incident took place on the Sangla-Chitkul road in Kinnaur district. While a vehicle carrying tourists was travelling, it was hit by the boulders.
The boulders have begun to roll from the top due to the landslide. This resulted in a few vehicles severely damaged and a bridge also collapsed.
The state government had swung into action and called for the rescue operations in the region and the efforts are underway. While eight victims died on the spot, one person breathed last while being taken to the hospital facility.
Talking about the incident,Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jairam Thakur said the concerned authorities are taking care of the rescue operations. In a tweet, he expressed his grief over the shocking incident.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had offered his condolences to the victims who breathed their last and announced ex gratia for the deceased.
In the tweet that was made by the PMO, it was announced that 2 lakh will be given to the family of the deceased while the injured victims will be given Rs 50,000.
