IAF confirms Bipin Rawat and his wifes death in chopper crash

In an unfortunate incident, CDS Bipin Rawat and his wife Madhulika Rawat breathed their last on Wednesday after the chopper they were traveling crashed in Tamil Nadu minutes after leaving the Air Force base. The Indian Air Force had disclosed the sad news through Twitter.

In a series of tweets, the Indian Air Force said Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat left for Wellingtom to meet the student officers and faculty at the establishment. Unfortunately, he, his wife, and 11 others died in the incident, IAF said.

"With deep regret, it has now been ascertained that Gen Bipin Rawat, Mrs Madhulika Rawat and 11 other persons on board have died in the unfortunate accident," IAF said in a tweet." Around noon today, an IAF Mi 17 V5 helicopter with a crew of 4 members carrying the CDS and 9 other passengers met with a tragic accident near Coonoor, TN," another tweet reads.

The defence chopper carrying 14 people including Bipin Rawat was crashed. 13 people including Bipin Rawat and his wife lost their lives in the incident. Directing Staff at DSSC Gp Capt Varun Singh survived the crash by sustaining injuries and he is undergoing treatment at the hospital.
