Days after Board of Control for Cricket in India(BCCI) Chairman Sourav Ganguly called IPL the best tournament in the world, IPL Governing Council has one more reason to celebrate for.

The data released by the Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) India said the 13th edition of IPL has been receiving more viewership compared to the 12th season of IPL.

'The IPL was a blessing to all those who wanted something from the 'old normal'. The viewership of the IPL has increased from last season, as the data shows,' BARC Tweet read.

According to BARC data, the ongoing 13th edition of IPL registered 7 billion viewing minutes during the first 41 matches. This translates to a 28 percent hike in the viewing minutes.

On the other hand, the 12th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) registered 5.5. billion viewing minutes. Despite aired on more channels the edition got only 5.5. billion viewing minutes for 44 matches.

The IPL fans who were not allowed to watch the IPL matches in the stadiums watched the matches on smartphones and computers. This is also a reason for the increase in viewing minutes.

Indian subscription video-on-demand streaming service Hotstar which streams the IPL matches in different Indian languages played a crucial role in the rise of viewing minutes. Four to five people can watch the matches at a time on different devices.
