India Registers Highest Single-day Covid-19 Casualties With 6148 Deaths

At a time when daily covid cases are coming down gradually, India had reported the highest number of fresh casualties so far with as many as 6,148 new deaths on Thursday.

As a result of India seeing a massive jump in new casualties, the country's total Covid related deaths rose to a whopping 359,676, the data shared by the Union ministry of health and family welfare's (MoHFW) said.

However, the fresh casualties were not logged in the past 24 hours. There was a lot of confusion over the casualties reported in Bihar. The state had reversed its fatality toll and added the previous 3,951 that went unnoticed in the past on Thursday.

On the other hand, India reported less than one lakh new Covid infections for the third consecutive day in a row. In the past 24 hours, as many as 94,052 people were found infected with the virus. India's cumulative caseload zoomed to 29,183,121.

On Thursday, 151,367 people were declared cured of the pandemic, pushing the total recoveries to 27,655,493. The recovery rate in the country has gone up to 94.76 percent. As a result, the active cases fell to 1,167,952,

As of June 9, a total of 372,198253 samples have been tested, while 2,004,690 new samples were tested in 24 hours, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said.
