In what it could be a shocker, India reported the highest spike in single-day cases with 24,850 fresh infections taking the toll of the total cases in the country to 6,73,165. With 613 fresh casualties, the total fatalities in connection with the virus zoomed to 19268.

On the other hand, as many as 14,856 patients recovered from the virus in the past 24 hours, taking the toll of the total recoveries to 4,09,082, with a recovery rate of 60.76%. The active cases stood at 2,44,814.

Looking at the worst-affected states in the country due to the virus outbreak, Maharashtra tops the list with 2,00,064 infections and 8,671 fatalities of the respiratory disease.

Tamil Nadu(1,07,001 infections and 1,450 fatalities) and National Capital Delhi(97,200 infections and 3,004 fatalities) are the next worst-hit states in India with the virus after Maharashtra.

Indian Council of Medical Research(ICMR) said in the last 24 hours, 2.48 lakh samples were tested for the pandemic and so far 98 lakh samples were tested.

Globally the total infections zoomed to 1.12 crore, while 5.3 lakh lost their lives to the ongoing pandemic. The US which is the worst0-hit nation in the world alone has 28.38 lakh infections and 1.29 lakh fatalities.
