In a shocking development, India reported 20,903 fresh infections in the past 24 hours, taking the toll of the total cases in the country to 6,25,544. The fatality count rose to 18,213 with 379 fresh casualties reported in the past 24 hours.

On a brighter note, 20,032 patients have been recovered in the country in the last 24 hours. With this, the total recoveries zoomed to 3,79,891 with a recovery rate of 60.72%.

As per the data released by the Union Health Ministry, the active cases in the country stood at 2,27,439, while the gap between the active cases and recovered cases increased to 1,52,452, which is widening gradually.

Looking at the pandemic tests, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said, as on July 1st, as many as 90 lakh samples were tested in India, while 2,29,588 samples were tested in the past 24 hours.

The data collected by the Johns Hopkins University found out that, globally 10.9 million people were infected with respiratory disease, while more than 519,000 people succumbed to the virus.
