The situation in India reached an alarming level, with India reporting the highest spike in Single-day with 26,506 fresh infections in the past 24 hours. With this, the toll of the total infections zoomed to 793,802.

On the other hand, the total recoveries mounted to 495,512 with a recovery rate of 62.42%, including 19,135 fresh recoveries in the past 24 hours. The active cases in the country stood at 206,588.

As per the data released by the Union Health Ministry, in the past 24 hours, 475 people succumbed to the contagious disease, taking the toll of the total fatalities in the country to 21,604.

Maharashtra continues to be the worst-affected state in the country which has over 2.30 lakh infections and 9,667 fatalities. Tamil Nadu(126,581 cases, 1,765 casualties), Delhi (107,051 cases and 3,258 casualties) are at the next position.

To contain the spread of the virus, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and West Bengal opted to impose a strict lockout in the respective states as the states are witnessing a surge of cases daily.

Globally, the total cases zoomed to 1,23,78,854 with a whopping 2,22,825 cases re[ported on Thursday, while 5,56,601 people succumbed to the virus. The US continued to be teh worst-hit nation in the world with 3,21,19,999 infections and 1,35,822 casualties.
