Following the crisis created by the novel Coronavirus, the apex governing body of cricket International Cricket Council(ICC) headquartered in Dubai made new changes to the ICC World Test Champions points system.

As a result, Team India led by Virat Kohli has slipped to the second position in the ICC World Test Championship rankings, while the Tim Paine-led Australian team reached the top spot.

The ICC made changes to the World Test Champions points system based on the recommendations made by the ICC Cricket Committee, led by former Indian spinner Anil Kumble given the pandemic situation.

Earlier, the rankings were used to be allotted to teams based on the points earned by the teams. As per the new system, the team rankings will be given based on the percentage of points.

According to the new system, England has 82.22 percent points, while India was restricted to 75.00 points restricting team India to the second spot.

Interestingly, the new ICC rankings came ahead of the much anticipated India's tour of Australia. The Indian squad is in Australia now. Both the team will play ODI, T20, and Test series.
