India registers over 4 lakh cases, nearly 4,000 Covid-19 casualties, highest so far

India is paying a high price for the deadly impact of the Covid second wave. Over the past few weeks, India has been making the worst Covid numbers in terms of single-day infections and fatalities.
Breaking all the existing records, India recorded not less than 3,980 fresh casualties in the past 24 hours, the highest spike in fresh casualties since the pandemic has hit India. The new casualties take the total toll of Covid-19 casualties to 2,30,168.
On Wednesday, India recorded the highest fresh infections, yet again, with not less than 4,12,262 patients catching the virus. For the second time, India witnessed more than four lakh Covid-19 cases. India's cumulative caseload rose to 2,10,77,410.
Since April, India has been seeing big numbers in new cases and casualties. India, which has been maintaining an average of over 3,000 casualties for nine days, is now moving towards 4,000 casualties.
In a piece of good news for India, as many as 3,29,113 patients have been declared cured and discharged from the hospitals in the past 24 hours. With this, the active cases in the country stood at 35,66,398.
Including Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala, and Uttar Pradesh, a total of twelve states in the country hold active cases of over one lakh in each state, the MoHFW said.
Karnataka recorded the highest single-day cases so far with over 50,000 cases. This is the highest spike in fresh infections since the deadly respiratory disease entered the state.
With the states ramping up the efforts to vaccinate the beneficiaries, a total of 16,25,13,339 beneficiaries have been vaccinated against the pandemic, while 19,55,733 people were vaccinated on Wednesday alone.
