Indian Origin Virologist Dies In South Africa of COVID-19

In what it could be shocker, Indian origin virologist Gita Ramjee has died due to the coronavirus in South Africa. This takes the toll of people who have died of the COVID-19 in South Africa to five.
64-year-old Ramjee who is a vaccine scientist and Human Immunodeficiency Virus prevention researcher has returned from London last week but did not show any positive symptoms then.
She was also the clinical trials unit principal investigator and unit director of the HIV Prevention Research Unit of the South African Medical Research Council.
âWe are deeply saddened to inform you of the tragic passing of Professor Gita Ramjee in hospital today. Professor Ramjee died of Covid-19 related complications.â president and chief executive officer of the council, Glenda Gray, said.
1,353 cases were reported in South Africa so far. Earlier the South African government said that the existing teams will be doubled to 10,000 so that they can go door-to-door to test the people for the dreaded virus.
