Indian Women Boxers Script History By Winning 7 Gold At 2021 AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships

The women boxers representing India at the 2021 Irish Athletic Boxing Association Ltd. (IABA) Youth Men's and Women's World Boxing Championships have scripted history by ending the tournament with match-winning performances.

Seven women boxers have won gold medals at the tournament. Gitika (48kg) Naorem Babyrojisana Chanu (51kg), Poonam (57kg), Vinka (60kg), Arundhati Choudhary (69kg), T Sanamacha Chanu (75kg), and Alfiya Pathan (+81kg) ended their campaign with victories.

Gitika gave a perfect start for India at the ongoing Championship by winning the first gold. She had knocked down Natalia Kuczewska with 5-0 in the 48kg category. The other boxers have extended India's performance by winning over their opponents.

The Asian Youth Champion Babyrojisana (51kg) and Poonam (57kg) further extended Indian winning momentum as the duo secured identical 5-0 victories to add two more gold medals.

Babyrojisana Chanu (51kg) and Poonam (57kg) have also won gold at the championship with 5-0 victories.

The spectacular show of Indian boxers helped India in recording its best performance at the Youth World Championships. In the ongoing championship, India has won 11 medals, beating the previous best of 10 medals in 2018.

Indian men boxer Sachin(56kg), who made it to the finals along with the women boxers will enter the ring tomorrow. There are high expectations on Sachin too.
