In a shocking development, India reported the highest surge of single-day in the past 24 hours with 24,248 fresh infections, which takes the toll of the total cases in the country to 6,97,413.
On the other hand, the total recoveries zoomed to 4,24,432, including 15,350 fresh recoveries reported in the past 24 hours. The active cases stood at 2,53,287. The gap between active cases and recovered cases widened to 1,71,145.
With 425 fresh casualties reported in the past 24 hours, the total fatalities in connection with the virus in India mounted to 19,693.
So far, more than 99.69 lakh pandemic tests were conducted in India, and in the past 24 hours, a whopping 1.8 lakh samples were tested for the virus.
India made an unwanted record by surpassing Russia and turned out as the third worst-hit nation in the world with the outbreak of the virus. Earlier, India was in fourth place.
Globally, the total infections zoomed to over 1.14 crore, while 5.3 lakh people succumbed to the dreaded virus. US, Brazil, India, and Russia are the worst-hit nations in the world.
