Is Prime Minister Narendra Modi planning a surgical strike on the media? Yes, feels a section of media which is perennially and viscerally opposed to the Prime Minister and the party he belongs to. This section feels that Modi is out to divide the media like none did so far.
According to highly placed sources, several nationalistically inclined pro-BJP media barons recently met the Union Minister for Information and broadcasting and discussed several issues of what they perceive as key importance. They have reportedly decided to split away from the Editor's guild, which is the apex body of mediapersons. They are planning to form a "Nationalist Editors’ Guild" as a counterfoil to the pro-Left and anti-BJP media. At least 20 leading persons, including Arnab Goswamy are said to be preparing to join the pro-nationalist body. The information and broadcasting minister is said to have assured them of full support from the Government.
If sources are to be believed, several major media leaders are moving increasingly closer to the BJP establishment. If and when this happens, it will be a surgical strike on the sections of media that are opposed to the BJP.
