Is the BJP Government at the Centre planning to take over the construction of Polavaram into its hands? Is it planning to put both the ruling party and the chief opposition party in Andhra Pradesh in a spot and use it to its own advantage? Recent statement of Central Water Resources Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat that the Centre will take the responsibility of completing the Polavaram project at the earliest indicate that something is cooking up in Delhi.

Two days ago, AP BJP president Kanna Lakshminarayana and several other BJP leaders inspected the Polavaram project and on Sunday, they met Shekhawat. They submitted a detailed report and interacted with the central minister for over an hour. It was after this that Shekhawat addressed the media and said that the Centre wants to complete the process of construction quickly.  During his interaction with the media, the minister said that the Centre would not tolerate further delay in the project in the name of reverse tendering. He also said that the State Government has not furnished any details about reverse tendering to the Central Government. He said the State Government was not responding to the Centre’s queries. He said both the TDP and the YSRCP are looking at the project only from the political view point.

So, the Centre is all set to give torrid time to the YSRCP government too like it did to the TDP government. The fund release is getting delayed and the blame for the delay is thrust on the State Government. So, the game has begun. It remains to be seen how the State Government responds to this challenge.
