Kesineni Nani shows Chandrababu is not the boss in TDP

One thought that the bad blood between Kesineni Nani and the TDP supremo is a thing of past. For the past three months Vijayawada MP Kesineni Nani remained silent and did not make any comments against Chandrababu Naidu. Also, he worked hand in hand with the other two TDP MPs –Galla Jaydev and Rammohan Naidu. All the three have put up a united front in the Lok Sabha. So, everyone, including Chandrababu Naidu, let their hair down and became complacent.

But, on Wednesday, Kesineni Nani showed that he still has the sting in his tail. He left the party leadership shocked and benumbed when he chose to abstain from voting on the crucial Citizenship Amendment Bill 2019. Chandrababu, who has of late been trying every trick in the trade to appease the BJP and get into its good books, has asked him MPs to vote in favour of the Bill. But, when the voting began, Nani simply vanished from the parliament. Only two of the three MPs of the TDP have voted for the party, while Nani absented himself. This has shown that the TDP is a divided house and that Nani wants to chart a different course for himself.

Interestingly, Nani is also closer to the BJP establishment and has time and again demonstrated his access to the BJP leaders. So, his decision not to vote is a direct assault on Chandrababu's leadership. Chandrababu does not know how to deal with this intransigent MP. Nani, who knows Chandrababu's weakness, is getting increasingly emboldened.
