MIM Is Enjoying TRS Discomfort

Who is the happiest of them all in GHMC elections? Though upbeat, the BJP is likely to fall well short of getting the mayor's post. The TRS too may not get adequate number of seats to win Mayor's post on its own. So, it may have to depend on the support of the MIM. So, the MIM is quite happy with the growth of the BJP.
The MIM is sure that it would win 40 to 45 divisions. In the event of the TRS falling short of the required numbers, it will have to seek the support of the MIM, which also has nine ex-officio votes also. Thus, the MIM can demand several key posts in the GHMC and might even ask for sharing of the mayor's position. There could also be sharing of cooption member posts between the TRS and the MIM.
In the 2009 GHMC, the Congress did not get adequate numbers and had to share power with the MIM. Both had mayoral posts for two-and-a-half years each. In the last GHMC council, the TRS had 99 seats and did not need the support of the MIM. Now with the BJP tipped to perform well, there is uncertainty in the TRS and it may join hands with the MIM.
