In a piece of rather shocking news for the government employees, the government has issued orders directing the contractual staff to follow a certain dress code at work.

The Maharashtra government led by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has issued orders asking the employees to wear a formal dress at work. The orders were issued by the government on Friday.

The orders issued by the government says government employees and contractual staff can not wear a T-shirt and jeans at work. Deep color clothes and clothes with embroidery were also banned.

The orders say Women employees were allowed to wear sarees, salwars or chudidars, kurtas , trouser pants, and shirts. They should only wear chappals, sandals or shoes at work


Men employees can wear shirts and pants or trouser pants. To promote the handlooms, the Maharashtra government in its circular asked the government employees to wear Khadi dress every Friday.

The state government said that government employees wearing a T-shirt and Jeans at work will hinder the image of the government which is why they have issued the orders.

Maharashtra is not the fury state to impose a dress code for the government employees. Earlier, Bihar, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Karnataka, and Himachal Pradesh have imposed a dress code for the employees.
