Mumbai MRI Scan Death: Three People Arrested!
X
On Saturday, A Man identified as Rajesh Maru was killed in a freak accident which took place in the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) room at Nair Hospital in Mumbai.

Reportedly, Rajesh Maru was killed as he got struck in the MRI Machine due to strong magnetic field after carrying a cylinder into the room. Kin of the deceased lodged a complaint against Radiologist Saurabh Lanjekar who was the in-charge of the MRI Centre, Ward Boy Vitthal Chavan and a Woman Cleaner Sunita Surve on grounds of negligence. Family Members refused to accept the body alleging that allowing a cylinder into the MRI scan room caused the death.

The Agripada Police arrested the Doctor and two hospital staff based on the complaint. A case under Section 304 (Culpable Homicide Not Amounting To Murder) of IPC was registered.

Lack of regulatory body for MRI scanners in India has been debated after this accident. However, Doctors feel there is no need for such a body as these things only happen due to human errors and when the staff weren't trained properly.
