More than 90k Covid cases logged in India

The single-day infections caused by novel Coronavirus which have been seeing steady growth over the past few days had reached the highest point after we saw the second wave of the virus. The daily growth in the new infections made India witness the record infections for one more time.



A day after logging more than 58,000 single-day infections, India saw close to one lakh new infections. In just 24 hours, the infections have increased close to two times.

The data shared by the Health Ministry says that 90,928 new COVID cases were reported in the country in the past 24 hours. This resulted in the active cases going past the 2 lakh mark with no less than 2,85,401 active cases of the ongoing pandemic.

Drawing a comparison between Wednesday and Thursday, the single-day infections by around 56 percent. India recorded a daily positivity rate of 6.43 percent.

The only thing that is in favour of India is the high recovery rate. As of now, 97.81 percent of patients have been declared cured of the virus with 3,43,41,009 beating the virus including 19,206 people who were declared cured of the virus in the past 24 hours.

As another matter of concern, 325 people have breathed their last battling the virus in the past 24 hours. A few states account for the newly detected infections and the fresh casualties recorded in the country.

States like Maharashtra, West Bengal, and the national capital Delhi recorded the major share of fresh infections on Thursday. 26,538 more people have come in contact with the virus in Maharashtra, followed by 14,022 and 10,665 cases. The three states have recorded single-day infections.

India is facing another threat with the rise in Omicron infections in the country. The Omicron infections have already crossed the 2,000 mark and rose to 2,630. Maharashtra has the highest number of Omicron cases with 797, with Delhi standing second place. Around 26 states have reported Omicron infections so far.

As a precautionary measure, several states went for restrictions to curb the infections. Theatres and eateries are running with 50 percent occupancy given the Covid scare.
