Which Chief Minister is among the worst affected by the pandemic? No it's not just in terms of the number of cases being reported from the state. It is also about the problems in governance and running party affairs. Without doubt, the award should go to Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
He perhaps is the only Indian politician to take oath of office during the lockdown. There was no fanfare, no celebrations. For over two months, Chouhand was the only minister in the cabinet as others could not take oath due to lockdown. He was the minister for all portfolios and it was only after a long wait that he could expland his cabinet. But, there is a tussle going on inside the party over the number of ministries given to the followers of Jyotiraditya Scindia, who has recently left the Congress to join the BJP. Some of his own longtime supporters are sulking at being left out. But, a cabinet expansion at a time when the positive cases are rising in Madhya Pradesh would get bad publicity for the BJP. So, everything is kept in abeyance. Now he has prepared a list of ministers to be inducted. But, the swearing in was not possible.
The reason? Six members of the Raj Bhavan have tested positive and the whole of the Raj Bhavan is now in the shutdown mode. The ministerial aspirants are fretting and fuming. But there is little they can do about it.
