Hearing the case of the tragic gas leakage that happened in the chemical plant in V.V. Venkatapuram the National Green Tribunal (NGT) clenched the LG Polymers India liable for the lives lost due to the gas leakage.

The Tribunal said that the amount of ₹50 crores deposited as compensation by the company will be spent on restoration. A committee was also constituted to come up with a restoration plan.

The bench led by Chairperson Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel referring to the report submitted by the committee appointed by the NGT said that the company didn't take proper care of the storage tank which resulted in the release of excess heat.

The bench added that the final compensation will be finalized by a committee that comprises the members from the Ministry of Environment Ministry, CPCB and National Environmental Engineering Research Institute.

The Tribunal went on to say that the committee which will have teh members of the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MoEF&CC), the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), and State government officials will come up with a comprehensive restoration plan.
