NHRC Takes Hyderabad Encounter As Suo Moto

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) took the encounter case of the alleged encounter of four accused in gangrape and murder of 26-year-old Hyderabad veterinarian Disha as suo moto.

The NHRC stated that they are in an opinion to have a probe into the encounter. They have released an official statement on this much talked about the encounter.

"Accordingly, it has asked its Director General (Investigation) to immediately send a team for fact-finding on the spot investigation into the matter. The team of the Investigation Division of the Commission, headed by an SSP, is expected to leave immediately and submit their report, at the earliest," said the commission.

"The investigation into this case must be handed over to the CBI since the Telangana police cannot be trusted to be fair in the matter. The judiciary must also take cognizance of these killings and respond appropriately," the release read.

"The judicial process should have been completed and punishment could have been given according to Indian law. The government has taken advantage of emotional public anger. We are compelled to believe that the government has no faith in the judiciary and its own law," Human Rights Forum Coordination Committee member of Andhra and Telangana said.
