It was a big relief for cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu. He is all set to step out of jail as his term ends. The legendary cricketer is getting released two months earlier. It is said that his jail term was cut short by two months due to good conduct inside the prison.

The Congress leaders and activists gathered outside the prison to give him a grand release. On the occasion, they brought the local artists who perform on Dhol. As he is a Congress leader, the leaders, and cadre wants to celebrate the occasion and give him a grand welcome.

The legendary cricketer was slapped with one-year rigorous imprisonment in connection with road rage that goes back to the 80s. Initially, he was sentenced to three years of jail term. But he got the punishment reduced to one year from three years by moving the Supreme Court.

Navjot Singh Sidhu had an argument with victim Gurnam Singh in 1988 when the victim asked the cricketer to remove his vehicle from the road as it was blocking the way. Things escalated quickly and Sidhu and his aides thrashed the victim leading to his death.

The Patiala sessions court acquitted him in the case in 1999. But the victim's family has been fighting the case and after three long decades, he was slapped with a jail term of three years by the Punjab and Haryana High Court. But the cricketer moved the Supreme Court and Apex Court reduced the jail term to one year.

But his jail term is one year. But he was released ten months after his arrest with his good conduct as per the reports. Navjot Singh Sidhu was sent to the Patiala court. Now he is all set to walk out of the jail today. His family members are waiting for his release.

After serving the Indian Cricket team, Navjot Singh Sidhu ventured into politics and joined the Congress party in Punjab. He was made the Cabinet Minister in the previous government. He served as the Local Government, Tourism, and Cultural Affairs of Punjab Minister. Idhu had issues with the then CM Amarinder Singh. The internal issues led to Amarinder's resignation.
