When a beautiful woman MP kissed the steps of Parliament a la Narendra Modi on Monday, all eyes were on her. Eyebrows were again raised, enquiries were made when she advised firebrand MP Pragya Singh Thakur not to raise Jai Sriram slogan inside the Parliament. Who is she, is the instant question. She is Navneet Kaur Rana, an independent MP who defeated Shiv Sena and the NCP in Amravati. And she has an interesting Telugu connection.
Not many know that Navneet Kaur was a film actress and had done several Telugu films in the past. She did films like Srinu Vasanthi Lakshmi, Satruvu, Jagapathi and danced to the hit song in Yamalokam in Rajamouli starrer Yama Donga. She played Rambha. Kalachakram in 2010 was her last Telugu film. In all, she did some 15 Telugu films. She also did Kannada, Tamil, Hindi and Punjabi films. After retiring from films, she married Ravi Rana, a politician and campaigned for him. In 2014, she fought on the Nationalist Congress Party and lost the election by over 1.37 lakh voters. This time around, she defeated Shiv Sena's three-time MP Anand Rao Adsul and entered Parliament as an independent candidate. She is the only independent candidate from Maharashtra in the Lok Sabha this time.
So, in the coming days, she is going to add not just glamour, but clear political insights in her stint as the Lok Sabha MP.
