The poster of an upcoming film gained a lot of negativity as many feel that it had hurt their religious sentiments. Besides social media seeing big criticism, a case was also filed against her based on a complaint received. The film is a documentary performance which will be released soon.

The film which is under heat is Kaali, helmed by Leena Manimekalai, who stays in Canada but was born in Madhurai. The character in the poster resembles the Hindu goddess Kali and smokes a cigarette.

The new poster had started the debate of alleged Hindu phobic content that is being pushed. As soon as the poster was launched, netizens from the north started bashing the filmmaker and demanding her arrest. #ArrestLeenaManimekal hashtag is now trending on social media with a big number of tweets and posts under it.

Earlier too we have seen such incidents. Web series and films that allegedly hurt the sentiments of Hindus face severe heat as happened with Saif Ali Khan's Tandav. The issue went to a level that the objectionable scenes had to be trimmed.

People started relating things to the Hinduphobic content. Recently, R Madhavan's Rocketry: The Nambi Effect was released. A few leading outlets, including Anupama Chopra's Film Companion, found fault with the makers for highlighting the lead role's religion. As the debate is going on, the poster joined the list.
